About the Role

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join our Mortgage Underwriting Team. Reporting to the Mortgage Underwriting Manager, the purpose of this role is to be responsible for the assessment, underwriting and approval of all new mortgage applications within an authorised mandate level. Additionally, the role will provide support and guidance to Branches, Brokers/IFA’s, Mortgage Administration Colleagues & Business Development Managers on matters relating to mortgage applications. The successful candidate will help deliver our ambitious growth plans for 2022 and beyond.

About You

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess individual mortgage applications through Branch and Online channels, making the decision to approve or decline the application. Referring applications out with authorised mandate level to appropriate level with recommendation on whether application should be approved or declined.
  • Carry out an initial assessment of Decision in Principle in accordance with Society Lending Policy/affordability guidelines.
  • Carry out CIFAS investigations as and when required and uploading to Fraud database when required.
  • Authorise the issue of mortgage offer papers.
  • Provide advice and guidance to branch colleagues on the Society’s mortgage products and lending criteria.
  • Provide advice and guidance to branch and Mortgage Admin staff on the Society’s mortgage processing system (Activate).
  • Deal with initial Transfer of Equity enquiries and the processing of these applications.
  • Consider requests for release of part security e.g. selling land.
  • Participate in regular review of mortgage procedures recommending amendments to manual where appropriate.
  • Assist with other areas of departmental work as requested by the Mortgage Underwriting Manager.
  • Active participation in projects to improve processes and procedures within Underwriting and the Mortgage Operations
  • Provide Mortgage Administration colleagues with training and mentoring on end to end mortgage processing..
  • Processing of various transactions on mortgage accounts (e.g. legal costs incurred, inspection fees, arrears adjustments, debit card payments, mortgage losses, marketing fees etc.).

Skills & Capabilities for the role:-

 

Qualifications:

  • MAPC/CeMap OR equivalent experience

Experience required:

  • Underwriting
  • Knowledge of all mortgage and general insurance related matters
  • PC Skills
  • Good written and verbal skills
