SBS Online is our easy to use accounts service. You can register to view your existing savings* accounts or mortgage account and also open a new Online Saver or E-ISA too.

*Some savings accounts (e.g. joint accounts and those held in Trust) are not available.

Please read our Terms of Use to find out more about how we operate SBS Online. If your question isn’t covered in this FAQ, please email us at savingsonline@scotbs.co.uk

General

Who can apply for a savings account?

Existing members and anyone over the age of 16 and resident in Scotland.

Can I apply for a joint account on SBS Online?

No, we only offer accounts with one named account holder.

I am a member, can I register my existing accounts?

If you have an existing savings account in your name only (or you are authorised to make transactions), you can register to manage it on SBS Online. Savings accounts that are held In Trust for someone else or as part of a Power of Attorney cannot be registered. For mortgages, you can register to view your mortgage balance and recent payments only.

Applying for a new account

What accounts can I apply for?

We offer the following accounts:

  • Online Saver
  • E-ISA ( a new Cash ISA available from 6 April 2021)

Please note that products can be withdrawn at any time without notice.

What happens after I apply for a new account?

Once we have your details (and any supporting documents if required), we will send you a Welcome Pack that includes the information you need to login for the first time.

I haven't received my registration email?

If you check your email Junk or Spam folder, you may find the email there. It's quite common for this to happen and you can add the address it's sent from to your Safe Senders list or mark it as "not spam". If you are in any doubt about any email communications from us, please contact us at savingsonline@scotbs.co.uk

I can't find the documents (e.g. Terms & Conditions) after I click "Confirm"?

When you apply for a new account, we ask you to confirm that you've read a number of important documents before proceeding. We do this by asking you to download a copy (PDF format) of each one. Depending on which device you are using and the settings that your browser (e.g. Chrome, Safari, Edge) uses, there may be differences in how you can find them, for example, some browsers open PDFs:

  • in a new tab, or
  • by asking you to download a copy.

If you are unsure, it's worth checking your device and browser settings.

Do you offer mortgages online?

Not at the moment. If you are looking at a property in Scotland, please speak to your mortgage adviser, or complete our online mortgage enquiry form to get the ball rolling. Please note that we only lend on properties in Scotland.

Security

How secure is SBS Online?

Keeping your personal information safe is our priority. You can read our Privacy policy for information on how we process any details you give us and also how we manage cookies on our sites. All data held on SBS Online is stored securely and meets the current Information Security Management (ISO27001) standards.

I have lost my password / forgotten my memorable information, what do I do?

Go to the SBS Online login page and click the ‘Forgot Password?’ link to choose a new password and memorable information. We will send you a new Activation Key that will allow you to access your account(s) again. Please remember to check your email Junk or Spam folder for the email and add the address below to your "Safe Senders" or email Address Book.

If you have any problems with this, you can email us at savingsonline@scotbs.co.uk

I think someone might know my password / memorable information, what do I do?

If you suspect someone knows your login details and/or your memorable information, you should reset your account login details immediately by going to the SBS Online login page and clicking the ‘Forgot Password?’ link. You can then create a new password and memorable information, and we will send you a new Activation Key. Your access will be suspended until you reactivate using your Key, password and memorable information.

Scottish Building Society will never ask you for your password or memorable information. If you receive a phone call or email from someone who says that they are from the Society asking you for this information, please let us know as soon as possible at savingsonline@scotbs.co.uk

If you notice unusual activity on your account, please email us at savingsonline@scotbs.co.uk immediately.

If you believe your email account has been compromised, please call us on 0131 313 7720.

Managing your account

How do I make deposits / withdrawals?

A nominated bank account is the easiest way to make transactions on your account. To make a payment to your account, use our bank details:

    • Payee Name:              Scottish Building Society
    • Sort Code:                   83-06-08
    • Account number:        00255419
    • Reference:                  Your account number (do not include any dashes)

Please make sure your account number is included, otherwise we may be unable to process your payment.

Our Savings Terms & Conditions – sections 8 and 10 – has full details of the ways you can make transactions on your account.

What is a nominated bank account?

A nominated bank account is a UK bank account held in your name that you use to make transactions to and from your savings account(s). This is the quickest and most efficient way to manage your savings account(s).

When you apply for a new savings account on SBS Online, please provide us with details of a bank account that can make and accept payments to and from your SBS Online account.

Can I make transactions at a Society branch?

Yes, you can. You will need to bring ID with you that confirms who you are (for example, a valid Passport) and your signature (for example, a valid Driving License) if you have not used a branch before, or are using a different branch. You can check which forms of ID to bring using our Proof of Identity checklist.

Can I keep my current passbook if I register for SBS Online?

Yes, you can continue to use your passbook at your branch or agency office.

What time period can I see on my accounts?

You can view up to 12 months of transactions.

If I want to close an account, how do I do this?

You can close your account at any time, though you should check for any specific conditions and/or administrative requirements that apply to your account. Please see section 15 of our Savings Terms & Conditions for more information on this.

If my details change, for example my email address or I move home, how do I let you know?

Email us at savingsonline@scotbs.co.uk and we will send you a form to complete.
